University Club Dinner Dance - General Info

WHERE ARE THE DINNER-DANCES?

The Club holds 9-11 Dinner-Dances each year for members and their guests primarily at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Ave., Champaign.  Free valet parking and self-parking are available.

WHAT IS A DINNER DANCE LIKE?

Dancing to a live band begins at 5 p.m. Seating at the 6- to 8-person tables is on a “first come” basis. The band takes a short break about 6 p.m. and any club business is handled during the break. Dinner with dessert is served at 7 p.m. A cash bar is available at the Champaign Country Club throughout the dance until the beginning of dinner. The evening typically concludes about 8 o’clock. Club members are asked to help make dinner-dance evenings special by wearing semi-formal attire – for men, a suit or collared shirt with dress slacks and a jacket; for women, a dress or dressy top with skirt or slacks.

HOW MUCH DO DINNER-DANCES COST?

For members, Dinner-Dances cost $50 per person or $100 per couple. Members can attend dinner only for $47 per person or the dance only for $20 per person.  Members can also bring guests who are not prospective new members for $58 per person. Payment is by check payable to the "University Club" and presented at the dinner-dance check-in table.  Dinner-Dance prices are higher for the December Christmas dance that is for members only (no guests). Dinner-dance prices are subject to change based on the meal prices from our vendor - see the event invitation for each dance.

The club shares the cost of dinner with members, defraying the cost with income from the Club’s endowment (club investments). The club charges the full price of the dinner dance for guests.

NOTE: Prospective New Members may “check out” a dinner dance as a guest of the club.  If you are thinking about asking a prospective new member to a Dinner-Dance, please check with the Club’s Vice President (Membership Chair) first. The name of the current Vice President can be found under Members Only / Club Leadership / Board Directory and their contact information can be found under Members Only / Member Directory. The prospective member(s) must complete a Liability Waiver Form prior to being admitted to the dance. The form will be provided at the dinner-dance check-in table. Alternatively, sponsors can download the Liability Waiver Form from the Members Only / Membership Applications Forms page.

DO I NEED RESERVATIONS?

Members (and any guests they want to include) must be registered for each dinner-dance by the Friday 8 or 9 days before the dance. Sometimes guests can be added up until Monday preceding the dance on approval by the Social Chairs. The deadline is specified in the detail information for each dance. When making reservations, be sure to indicate any food allergies or dietary restrictions, and dessert preferences. Payment is by check made payable to “University Club” and delivered to the host when you check in for the evening.

1. The easiest way is to sign up in person at the previous dinner-dance.

2. On this website, navigate to Members Only / Event Schedule. Click on the event in the calendar. Register from the event detail page.

3. Respond to the email announcement that will be sent about 2-1/2 weeks before each dance. Additional reminders to sign up for a dance are sent out before the registration deadline.

4. Reservations can be made by members from this web site, or by contacting the Social Chairs at uclubilsocialchairs@gmail.com. The names of the current Social Chairs can be found under Members Only / Club Leadership / Board Directory.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?

Club members who sign up for a dinner-dance should cancel as soon as possible if their intentions change. The Friday 8 or 9 days (a week before) prior to the dinner-dance is the deadline for new reservations and cancellations, but the social chairs may announce a later date. “No shows” or those who cancel too late are obligated to pay for a missed dinner-dance because we give the Champaign Country Club a guaranteed number of attendees in advance and are obligated to pay for those meals. If you must cancel after the deadline, check in with the Social Chairs regarding the option of picking up your dinner “to go” at a time chosen by the chef.
